Dance Magic
|
|
|
Dance Magic classes are offered for children ages 3-4. Our preschool dance classes are very popular
programs at Triangle Academy of Dance. We offer two levels, Dance Magic for 3-4 year olds and Kinderballet for 4-5 year olds.
These classes are unique among children's introductory ballet classes. Our classes are fun and make learning dance a truly
creative experience that benefits the children's coordination, musicality and expressiveness. The Dance Magic
classes are structured with ballet steps, games and stories. We start out in the center with the Magic Circle, an introduction
to basic ballet positions and steps (some Dance Magic classes use the ballet barre also). Then we play a fun game (freeze,
zoo animals, or beanbag boogie are favorites). We always take a water break half way through the class and then we get on
board the Magic Bus for more steps across the floor. Finally, a story ballet is read to the students with suggestions for
acting out the ballet with costumes and classical music. Dance Magic is for three-year-olds turning
four. Your child needs to be a least three years old by August 31 and be fully potty-trained to enroll. The student needs
a full year of Dance Magic, if they turn 4 years old during the year they still stay in Dance Magic for the entire school
year. If you feel your child needs to be promoted please consult the teacher. Their teacher will evaluate and promote the
student, if needed. Girls in Dance Magic wear the color Pink! Pink everything ... ballet slippers,
tights and leotard are all pink. All merchandise is available at the Triangle Academy of Dance. A short, simple pink ballet
skirt is allowed, however no tutus or dress costumes please! Boys wear white T-shirts, socks and ballet slippers with black
shorts or black tights. Students in Dance Magic do not participate in the school's end of the
year recital, as we feel their classes should be fun and tension free! We have two observation classes per year held in the
studio during regular class time. Parents and family members are invited to observe, video and/or photograph their child.
Dance students are awarded a Dance Medal at the end of the school year in their last Observation class.

Kinderballet is for four-year-olds turning five. Your child needs to be a least four years old by August 31 to enroll.
Kinderballet continues to develop the creative dance experience from Dance Magic, but also introduces a little more structure

Kinderballet students may choose from Kinderballet with Tap or Kinderballet with Jazz - the variety of styles and rhythms
from these classes add extra interest and fun for the dancers.

The techniques of working with a partner is taught through careful understanding of supported balances, turns and lifts.
Students will learn classical pas de deux variations from the classical repertoire and be challenged learning contemporary
styles partnering work as well. By invitation only.
Pointe/Variations Classes
Each student is carefully evaluated before starting study on pointe. Sufficient understanding of correct placement and
alignment must be demonstrated before pointe instruction begins thus decreasing the possible risk of injury. Advanced pointe
students will also learn and analyze classical pointe variations from famous ballet repertoire.
Teen/Adult Ballet
For older students who wish to attend ballet class once a week for fun and fitness in a relaxed environment. We typically
have a range of ages and experience levels in these classes from beginners to retired professional dancers. The adult ballet
classes do not include pointe work. Adults who wish to do pointe work are welcome to take the company pointe classes. Classes
are structured to move at your own pace. For example; when doing turns in the center, beginners can just do relevé passé,
while intermediate dancers can do single pirouettes and advanced students can do double (or triple!!) turns. We emphasize
stretching and flexibility and limitations due to age or injury are discreetly addressed. There is no dress code for adult
classes. Most students wear leotards (any color) and tights (pink or the more slimming black) and a skirt. Leg warmers, t-shirts,
sweat pants, etc. are fine too.
Tumble / Cheer
These classes are offered to introduce acrobatics to our students and the fundamentals of cheerleading. Students will learn
the proper technique to complete cartwheels and round-offs as well as hand and arm positions for cheer.
Jazz
Jazz is enjoyed by all in its contemporary form with the emphasis on technique, rhythm and style. As students progress
through the levels more advanced combinations and different styles of jazz are introduced. Classes will begin with a warm-up
using isolations, bending, and stretching exercises, followed by dance combinations of turns, kicks, leaps, and jumps. New
dances will be taught each session.
Team Jazz
For older teens who wish to compete in local dance competitions. Placement is by invitation or audition. Competition fees
are an additional expense and are not included your tuition. Students will be required to purchase costumes and jazz shoes
